Umbrella Newsletter # 53
On the eve of the All Teachers’ Day I was looking for the format of this Umbrella Newsletter and recalled London 2012 Olympic Games with its motto: “Inspire a generation!” “What a great motto!” – I said, thinking about you, English language teachers, and “simile went further still” and I couldn’t help but comparing you to glorious marathon runners. Each academic year you start this yearlong “marathon”, for which you should be properly trained, provided with new technologies, observed by skilled trainers, awarded for each success, supported during a thrilling final and cheered when you get a stunning gold medal. We, in the English language Office, will try to be not only on-lookers, who are cheering you, but devoted trainers who sometimes run half a distance next to you to help you enhance your endurance. I have also borrowed Anastasiya Khodakova’s (firstname.lastname@example.org) idea (which I found in the new DVD-ROM on Testing) of rubrics in this Newsletter. So, let’s go ahead and cross the line accompanied by a mighty cheer!
