Theatrical contest on Tolearnce and Cultural diversity in Tula

On New Year's Eve Mary Poppins and Little Prince visited Tula State Lev Tolstoy Pedagogical university. They told their stories in English ...
Faculty of Foreign Languages and TUELTA organized a theatrical competition for the second time on December 26, 2012. This year the theme of the mini-performances was tolerance and cultural diversity.
Three schools and nine university teams showed "12 months" and "Alice in Wonderland," "Mary Poppins" and "The Little Prince", "Red Riding Hood" and "Home Alone." The fragments of the popular musical "Chicago" looked quite fabulous. In classic stories participants managed to find a new focus to emphasize the importance of mutual understanding and trust, to preserve the unity in diversity of a multicultural society.
The plays of young actors were judged by the jury according to several criteria: originality, level of English proficiency, creativity and artistic talant and tolerance. Among school participants Zaoksky school was named the best, and the students' victory came to a group of freshmen who prepared a performance about "Mary Poppins."
First-year students and high school students carefully prepared scripts, scenery and makeup to amuse the audience and the jury. Among the plays were even new fairy tales written by the participants themselves. The sophomores prepared the familiar fairy tale "Little Red Riding Hood," though with a modern twist.
Santa Claus and Snow Maiden opened this small concert. Guests from school № 25 of Tula, Zaoksky school and school № 1 of Uzlovaya showed distinguishing performances as well.

The participants shared their impressions about the event:

“When we were preparing for today's holidays devoted to New Year and the Day of Tolerance our souls were full of excitement, interest and joy. Our preparation was long, but fruitful. We were painting the scenery, preparing costumes and make-up - it was extremely exciting! All the performances were original and fresh! Each was unique and magic in its own way. In fact, the impressions are bright and positive, my mood is excellent and the taste of victory is so sweet!”
Ann Shilina (a participant in the play "Mary Poppins")
“The competition of performances was a success. I have never seen so many stories told by talented young people on a single day, and the impression of my own performance is staggering! Great experience in acting not only for students but also for pupils. Thanks a lot!”
Alexander Sinitsin (Mr.Hunter in the fairy tale "Little Red Riding Hood")
“Today at 2 pm all the participants gathered in the 1st lecture hall. We showed the tale based on "Little Red Riding Hood." It was an interesting experience for me: I participated in the play in English for the first time. I enjoyed the entire process, from the preparation (We did it ourselves: we were looking for costumes and wrote the script) to the last minute of performance. I hope that our faculty and TUELTA will conduct more events of the kind!”
Alena Chaplygina (Mom in the fairy tale "Little Red Riding Hood")
“We together with Anton Belov were leading the competition – Santa Claus and Snow Maiden. We tried to cheer up the audience and to help them feel a Christmas tale. I think we managed to do it, everyone laughed and no one was bored. I want to say ‘thank you’ to the organizers of this festival and the students who produced such wonderful scenes.”
Ann Aristova (Snow Maiden)
