Picturing America comes to Russia

“Picturing America in Russia” is a brand-new teaching resource for Russian students of different levels, new and captivating approach to teaching language, history and culture through Arts. “Picturing America in Russia” consists of 3 major components: • “Picturing America in Russia” DVD-rom with 45 lesson plans, developed by English Language Fellow Natasha Isadora Frank and a team of Russian teachers; • 40 high-resolution colored reproductions of most prominent American photographs and paintings, that are available in American Corners and through the “Picturing America” website(see below); • picturingamerica.neh.govwebsite that offers all the paintings thematically arranged with short description and author’s biography. American edition of “Teacher’s Resource Book” is also available there for free downloading. What’s new? Special emphasis should be laid upon student-centered approach as it is a certain innovation that makes this DVD-rom standing out against other textbooks. Lesson plans are tailored to suit students' needs and interests, to encourage their own thoughts and provoke group collaboration. It would be also of interest to note that Picturing America project has been successfully working in America and it has promoted deep interest of children towards Arts throughout the country. The degree of interactivity is a great advantage, too. "Picturing America" project is accompanied by the website and a large section of Web Resources, so that teaching process can be easily adjusted to the latest trends in information technology thus highly motivating young students who are living in contemporary digital world. Do you want to try? If you are interested in this project and would like to see how it works, you are welcome to invite one of the “Picturing America in Russia” authors to your conference.
